Just a few short months ago I wrote an article about mirror-less cameras, their place in the market and the fact that I am in no way ready to hop on that band wagon. I was wrong. I decided to try one out so I rented one online.
There are a few online places to rent cameras/lenses. I personally have used lensrentals.com and borrowlenses.com. Rather than drag your expensive, heavy gear on vacation just borrow a nice lightweight rig with a lens or 2 and drop a little insurance on it. It solves the issue of toting your heavy gear and gives you a chance to try out that new mirror-less system you have been hearing so much about.
The process is very easy. Just go to the website, pick the camera and lenses you want and any accessories you might want to play with. They ship it to you in a box with a return label already created. Use it, make memories, then ship it back in the box it came in … so easy!
For vacation I would suggest a good wide angle zoom in the 16-35 range and a telephoto in the 70-200 range. If you want to travel really light just grab a single 35 mm lens and leave it mounted. Just remember to enjoy that family time and put the camera away for at least part of the trip :).
